Alternative Building in Australia - Designs, Challenges, processes
13th/14th September - CERES, Melbourne

A great turnout of people from all walks of life from near and afar, attended the successful weekend workshop on the 13th/14th of September at CERES Environment Park, Brunswick, Victoria.  Representatives from alternative building industry, environmental education, the planning industry, community development and interested public attended 2 full days of activities, including a sustainable building and energy eco-house tour, a site tour of CERES, an afternoon of lectures including and a full days building.

Highlights include;
a talk given by Martin Freney of UniSa who talked about the process of getting the first permit in Australia for his BnB in South Australia, followed up by a great explanation by Thomas Ha, his engineer, who discussed the adaptations and requirements for getting building approval for Earthships in Australia.  Other talks included Craig Byatt talking about sustainable architecture, Oliver Crowder discussing solar options, Rob Leary discussing sustainable plumbing options and Rachel Goldlust talked about design options and project logistics for hosting a workshop on your property.

Saturday night saw SustainabilitydrinksAustralia
host an evening of sharing, shmoozing and connecting across sustainability professionals and the public, consolidating the information from the afternoon and connecting interests and business together looking towards furthering alternative building in Australia.

A fantastic workshop on Sunday hosted by Adam Hickman, Matze Paul and Rob Leary gave participants a great basis for understanding basic roof building and tyre wall construction.  A great time was had by all and we will be looking towards more workshops at CERES later in 2014.

Thanks to all participants, speakers, contributors, CERES Environment park and friends and family who helped us put on this awesome event.
